With many successful golf resorts around the world, such as La Manga in Spain, Sun City in South Africa and Quinta do Lago in Portugal, Cypriot Government have come to realise the island’s potential as a golfing delight. Golf is now becoming so popular that in 2006 it was agreed to construct a further 14 courses in the Republic of Cyprus.
Each of the golf courses in Cyprus offers a different golfing experience for all standards and ages alike. Aphrodite Hills Golf Club is located about 20 minutes from Paphos and is situated on a plateau 300 metres above sea level with breath-taking views of the sea. This challenging course is weaves it way around the lakes, Olive and Carob trees from its natural surroundings. With many challenges, not least the 18th, that runs alongside and negotiates a central ravine, you will reach the 18th green with the splendid clubhouse in sight knowing a refreshing drink awaits. In addition there is large driving range facility, 2 resident golf professionals, a well-equipped pro shop and practice greens and bunkers. Aphrodite Hills is a truly wonderful golfing experience.
The Secret Valley Golf & Country Club is one of the best golf courses in Cyprus. Nestled near to Petra tou Romiou, the birthplace of Aphrodite, and around 12 miles away from Paphos, the course is set in a scenic valley with fantastic gardens and wonderful natural rock formations. Secret Valley is currently undergoing a large transformation which will add a further 2 courses and rival such resorts as La Manga in Spain. The views from the country house style clubhouse are spectacular and the practice and teaching facilities are also first class.
Other courses such as Tsada Golf and Country Club and Vikla Golf Course and Country Club are well worth a visit too. There are many other courses being developed but one of the most eagerly awaited is the Larnaca Golf and Country Club which will boast a fantastic 18 hole championship golf course, first rate practice and teaching facilities, a clubhouse that is set to comprise of a restaurant, lounges, bars, library and children’s room. There is also going to be luxury fitness centre and health spa and a retail village.
With the popularity of golf in Cyprus and further construction of more quality golf resorts, the island in the sun is only going to get better and more popular as a favoured European golf destination.
